Reflective Service - 9.30am Monthly

On the first Sunday of the month we hold a quieter gathering in the Church rooms across the car park at the Greenway centre with a short talk and some reflective worship and prayer.

Morning Service - 10.30am

A lively mix of worship, teaching and prayer with groups for the children. Before and after the service there is a chance to connect over coffee with our hospitality team or meet others from our congregation.

At this service we have a number of groups that are committed to helping our children and young people discover more about Jesus and help them as they seek to follow Him. We do this through a blend of teaching, activities and lots of fun!

Branch Community Church - 4pm

In 2015 we planted a new church in Brentry which has a family friendly service at 4pm in Brentry Primary School.

Evening Service - 7pm

A larger gathering at Woodlands Christian Centre, on the corner of Belgrave Road and Woodland Road, Clifton, Bristol, BS8 2AA.

Upcoming Services...

With almost 100 young people in the church, children are a high priority for us. Jesus welcomed, valued and encouraged children and we aim to do the same.

Sundays

On Sunday mornings, children spend the first part of the service in the main hall before enjoying activities in age-specific groups. Our children’s team aim to encourage each child to relate to and find out about God for themselves. Activities are varied, fun and creative. We have six children’s groups and all group leaders are DBS checked:

  • Explorers - 0 to reception
  • Adventurers Years 1 - 3
  • Pioneers - Years 4 - 6
  • Devotion - Years 7 - 13

As well as Sundays we have the following regular activities

Imps

Our popular mother and toddler groups that meet in the morning at our building on Albert Place in Westbury on Wednesday and Thursday, and at the Greenway Centre in Southmead on a Thursday.

Reach Cafe

This our after-school cafe for families in Southmead with games, crafts and baking followed by a meal together. Runs during term-time, every Wednesday at the Greenway Centre from 3pm to 5:30pm.

Sunday Devotion is our group for young people which meets on Sunday mornings during the main service. The group is split into two different age ranges: Devo (for school years 7-9) and the self-named Older-Not-Wiser (school years 10+) group.

Both groups are tailored towards their respective ages, using games, videos and discussion to have fun and explore the Christian faith in a relevant way.

Albert’s Place is our Youth Club which runs every Thursday evening during term time at our building on Albert Place in Westbury-on-Trym..

Years 6 & 7 runs from 6:30 - 7:45pm

Year 8 runs from 8:00 - 9:15pm

In addition to these regular events we run courses, weekends away, and special one off events specifically for our children and young people.

Get in touch

If you have any questions or comments, we'd love to hear from you. Feel free to contact Matt and Maddie, our youth pastors.

Welcome

If you're a student in Bristol, the Community Church is a great place to be. We have regular morning meetings from 10:30am - 12:00pm, and we attend the evening service at Woodlands Church in Clifton. You'll be welcomed into the Community Church family with a hot meal (or several) and opportunities to join one of many small groups.

We also support the Student Welcome at Woodlands Church - your opportunity to get a free burger every day during fresher's week (18th - 21st September).

The Community Church is, unsurprisingly, focused very heavily on serving the local communities of Westbury and Southmead. So there will be multiple chances for you to get stuck in with serving on one of our Sunday teams, or our ministries during the week.

New Wine Discipleship Year

We offer a placement as part of the New Wine Discipleship Year (NWDY): An exciting year of adventure, investment and growth. It is a year of equipping, encouraging and empowering to see the Kingdom of God advance, here in the city of Bristol. Training is offered by the Müllers Course and placement is delivered across a range of Community Church ministries, as well as having the option to serve across the Woodlands congregations.

There is no financial cost for doing the NWDY, however it is a year of unpaid work and you will be expected to cover your living costs and to find your own accommodation.

Youth Work Placements

We are able to offer placements to students involved in youth and community work courses. We have a flexible approach to these placements, and you will have access to a line manager as well as pastoral support throughout your course.

If you interested in seeing The Community Church for yourself, or to join the team as part of the New Wine Discipleship Year, or to have us as a placement, please speak to our Student ministers: Matt and Maddie Doherty.

As a church we are committed to help you in your discipleship and a key way we do that is by encouraging everyone to be part of a small group.

We currently have groups meeting on:

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday evenings
  • Thursday and Friday mornings

Most groups meet weekly but some are fortnightly. We have groups that are for all ages, some for families, some that are aimed at men and some that are just for women. Some are held in a home and some meet in one of our buildings. They are located across the communities we serve. The aim of all of these groups is help us as we follow Jesus through Bible Study, prayer, worship and sharing life together.

In addition to these groups we have a number of groups with a more specific focus:

Group for those suffering with Long Term illness

Every month this group meets to support and pray for one another in the struggle with long term illness and chronic conditions. It is very safe, supportive and confidential space.

Prophetic Group

This group is an opportunity to grow in your spiritual gifts by prayer, listening to God for yourself and others. Its aim is to grow our confidence in our ability to hear from God and learn how best to share that with others.

Mens Film / Book Group

This group meets monthly to discuss a particular book or film and explore its themes and how they shape our thinking about our own lives and experiences.

Giving

We don't tend to talk very much about money as a church. It can be off-putting for visitors, and we never want people to feel under pressure.

However, giving is an important part of discipleship, and we do believe in being a generous church, giving cheerfully to the needs around us. Simply put, giving is part of our community life together.

How do I give to Woodlands Group of Churches?
